I admit, inspiration has been a bit hard to come by lately and I’m trying to get myself back into writing shape and this truly beautiful piece by @commander-sarah has been a great help, so I suppose this is my way of expressing gratitude.(Also thank you for letting me borrow Kailan again, I hope I didn’t butcher her too much)
Kailan suppressed a yawn as she watched Lootra embrace Aaida. She told herself she was happy reuniting them – she was glad to offer them her help and that sentiment has not changed – but she had to admit, there were other feelings occupying her mind and body, feelings she was busy fighting. The Exile was exhausted, frustrated, anxious and disappointed in herself. The scene unfolding in front of her provided some comfort, at least. She may have let herself down, but not them. She may have made a mistake but she has learned from it.
It all worked out it in the end, the Exile tried convincing herself. She had help and now she was ready to give that same help to the galaxy. Atton rescued her and it was Kailan’s turn to rescue Aaida.
‘Take care, you two,’ Kailan flashed a smile at the couple. ‘May the Force be with you both,’ she said and turned to leave. She wasn’t left alone with her thoughts for long, however.
‘You have only made their union easier, not better,’ Kreia said once they left Lootra’s shabby little room, and quickened her pace so she could walk beside her student. ‘If he loved her, truly, he would have entered the Refugee Sector on his own, damn the Exchange, damn everything in his path, and taken her.’
Kailan groaned. What better way to finish the day than with an argument with Kreia. ‘If there’s one thing I learned here is that sometimes we all need help and we need to learn to accept it with dignity,’ the Exile said, but she was mostly aiming those words towards herself. She was safe, she needed to let go of her frustration and focus on the present.
‘I’d rather die than have you weaken yourself for me in that manner,’ her mentor answered.
‘Then, for your sake, I hope I’ll never have to rescue you,’ Kailan failed to hide her feelings in her tone, but that also made Kreia reconsider whatever reply she had in store for her. The old master eventually decided not to say anything but she made sure her disapproval was visible in her movements even if her words were not welcome.
The Exile finally managed to ignore Kreia once she glimpsed the lights of the Smuggler’s Moon again. The motions, the sounds, even the smells pushed her to be sharper and more aware. She chuckled bitterly at the irony: for ten years she relied on nothing but her wits, her instincts and her skills, but once she relied on the Force again, she got complacent and Nar Shaddaa, with all its hunters and scammers, can prove deadly to those who are complacent.
Kailan exhaled with her eyes closed, and she could almost feel her passion being channeled into gratitude rather than frustration. When she opened her eyes again, she noticed Atton leaning against a wall near the entrance of the building. He greeted her with a warm but cautious smile when the Exile’s gaze met his.
‘So… we’re good to go?’ the scoundrel sounded exhausted. Kailan couldn’t blame him, after all he… he came for her.
Damn the Exchange, damn everything in his path.
The Exile’s heart skipped a beat. The currents of her thoughts were swift and disorienting: she thought of the moment Atton reached out to her just so he could give her some healing packs and one last bit of warning, she thought of the moment she saw him again on Goto’s yacht, she thought of the relief and the gratitude she felt then. She thought of what all of that might have meant to him… as well as to her.
Atton furrowed his brows and stepped closer to the Exile. ‘Are you okay? You look like you’re about to pass out,’ he asked her.
‘I… I’m alright,’ Kailan said. The collar of her shirt tickled her chest but as she reached to adjust it, she realized the sensation came from inside her. She bit her lip, suppressing the heat spreading in her cheeks before she continued. ‘I just realized that… I never thanked you for rescuing me,’ she said eventually.
‘Ah well, don’t mention it,’ the scoundrel chuckled and rubbed a spot on the back of his head. ‘You would’ve done the same for me.’
‘Yes. I would have,’ the Exile said but she no longer knew whether it was benevolence and friendship that made her say those words, or something else entirely.
‘Good to know,’ Atton replied and set out towards the exit to the Refugee Sector. Kailan stood frozen for a moment, trying to process what she just experienced.
I suppose, I should be thankful some of my words have reached you, Kreia’s words rang bitterly in the Exile’s head, but she paid them no mind. She had enough thoughts to untangle of her own.

ya’ll can blame @officialbabineni for this one, bc her fics have dragged me straight back into Atton/Exile hell, and provided me with some sorely needed inspiration, this drawings a direct prequel to this one, like literally only a couple seconds prequel (pay no mind to Kailan’s outfit change, I redesigned it after the first one)

In my quest to draw all of my Star Wars OCs in this style, i have finally finished my Jedi Exile, -my sweet grey jedi baby- Kailan Surik. Two pics bc i wanted both of her lightsabers, Her top ones color is supposed to be silver but it doesn’t show as well as i’d like, and the bottom is cyan.

to the amazing @commander-sarah, a little something something to go along with these lovely pieces of art x x
Kailan eyed an unassuming looking door, one of many in the apartment complex. She breathed in and closed her eyes, trying to block out the masses of Nar Shaddaa. She reached out for the person behind the door as she exhaled slowly. The thoughts she touched were familiar but somehow… duller as well, they were merely sparks compared to the blaze the Exile once knew, a hastily put together shack instead of the near impenetrable mental fortress she remembered. At least she was certain she found the one she was looking for.
The Exile lifted a hand to knock and as she formed a fist, she felt a different kind of knot within. She felt a wave of frustration and anger, feelings she suppressed by the time her knuckles touched the metal, leaving only the echoes of disappointment ringing hollow in her.
There was no reply.
Kailan knocked again, more forcefully this time. A voice called out from inside. She couldn’t make out the words, but it was enough to make her heart skip a beat. There was a part in Kailan, a part that shrunk smaller and smaller each time she was stung by rage, worry and sometimes failure, a part that was somehow still happy for the meeting that was about to come. She was looking forward to it during her journey back from the Unknown Regions. But this was not how the Exile imagined the reunion. Not in a hidden away corner of Nar Shaddaa, not weeks later, not overcome by the feeling of being let down.
The door opened.
‘What the hell do you want?’ Atton greeted the Exile without even looking at her. He looked drained as he rubbed his eyes and he sounded raspier than how she remembered. The scoundrel lifted his gaze, his eyes widening in surprise as they met hers. ‘Kailan…?’ he asked. His voice was barely louder than a whisper and yet it still rang with both relief and disbelief.
‘You won’t even invite me in?’ Kailan said as she pushed past the pilot. She only took a few steps into the apartment, shooting glances at the mess around her, before she turned back to him. Atton still stood in the doorway, trying to process the situation.
‘How…?’ he closed the door, and cautiously walked up to the Exile. ‘What are you doing here?’
Kailan didn’t answer at first. She frowned at the scoundrel and crossed her arms in front of her, hoping that he would pick up on the ridiculousness of his own question.
‘I don’t know. It might have something to do with having to come home to my apprentice missing. Do you have anything to say on that?’ she said eventually, her words echoing her impatience growing in her.
‘You mean…’ Atton seemed confused at first, but after a few moments his face lit up with clarity. ‘I can explain…’
‘Can you?! You made a promise! You were supposed stay with the others and finish your training! Instead, you ran off barely a few days after I left,’ Kailan threw up her arms. She turned away from Atton, trying to calm the passions that drove her to either punch him or kiss him. ‘You disappointed me greatly,’ she hissed.
‘Yeah, I guess, I did,’ even unseen, the Exile could tell, Atton was smiling as he spoke. ‘I know this is a weak excuse but after you left… I knew you weren’t coming back,’ the pilot’s words prompted Kailan to turn back to him. She couldn’t help but believe him. It was a feeling she got from time to time during her search for Revan as well. ‘I knew you were gonna die and I couldn’t warn you or protect you,’ the scoundrel’s smile faded as he remembered.
‘So you left?! Atton, premonitions don’t always come true, the future is always uncertain. What is certain is the fact that you’re my student. You had a duty that you abandoned,’ the Exile pointed at the scoundrel’s chest as she spoke.
‘You and I have very different ideas on what my duty is,’ Atton scoffed, ‘I had nothing to stay for. Not with you gone,’ he said reaching out to caress Kailan’s face.
The Exile felt her blood rushing to her face under the pilot’s touch, so she swept his hand away.
‘Atton, you idiot, don’t you get it? If I failed as you felt, the responsibility of protecting the Republic would’ve fallen to you. You and the rest of the Order. I left, knowing that you would be there to protect everything I hold dear. I trusted you because I…’ Kailan couldn’t finish the sentence. Once again she felt Atton’s hand on her cheek. She felt his thumb run along her lower lip, his gaze on her skin, rediscover the details of face. For a moment, she was stunned by the adoration she felt radiating from him.
A moment later, she felt the pilot’s lips on hers. The Exile stood frozen, overwhelmed. Atton kissed her forcefully, ravenously, showing her the craving and grief he felt for her all this time, but at the same time, she could also feel the corner of his lips curl to a smile. Kailan closed her eyes and kissed back cautiously. The pilot in turn slipped his hand to the back of her head and let the other wander along her body. The Exile felt his emotions resonating in her, pushing her to kiss him harder, to express how much she missed him and cared for him no matter what.
‘Don’t think all is forgiven’ she said, pulling away for a moment to catch her breath.
‘Wouldn’t dream of it,’ Atton replied with a smile and closed the gap between them again.
Kailan had to admit: the circumstances might have been different but this… this was the reunion she dreamed of. She wrapped her arms around the scoundrel and allowed herself to let go of her frustrations and find some happiness for once.

🖊 Your lovely Revan and Exile!
Oh wow havent thought about those two in awhile lets see
Rana (Revan): Born on Naboo.
Has a photographic memory and can speak over 30 languages.
Master in the reveresed shien form and Jar’Kai
Forced Carth to be The Ebon Hawks co-pilot bc she called dibs, the girl loves to fly.
Kailan: Born on Gatalenta
Way too calm, its unnerving and not natural according to Atton, Kailan rebuttles that he probably wouldnt get in as much trouble if he tried to calm down once in awhile.
Absolutely did not want to go back to known space, and even used her blaster to stun the republic soldiers sent to collect her.
Kailans necklace is braided leather with the bands from her padawan braid on it.
